Kissingate Brewery - April 2012 Report

Kissingate BLO Report April 2012

The Kissingate Brewery has increased beer sales significantly since recent
expansion. Gary and Bunny say that they are producing cleaner and crisper beers
on the new kit. However a rise in supplies to pubs in the Brighton and Hove
area as well as fifty free houses is already stretching the 6BBL brewing
capacity to the limit. Smelter’s Stout, Chennai IPA, Black Cherry Mild and
Kissingate Best are all selling well whilst Mary’s Ruby Mild recently won The
Bev Robbins Shield for best Sussex beer at the 22nd Sussex Beer & Cider
Festival.

The brewery also won the 2012 Gatwick Diamond New Business of the Year Award recognising
achievement and growth in tough economic times. This was a great honour for the
brewery as they were competing against a wide range of industries throughout
the Surrey and Sussex counties. Gary said it comes as a major boost that the
larger business community has recognised us for being one of the ‘front
runners’ for new business innovation.

The new brewery premises itself (The Pole Barn) continues to develop not only as a brew
house, but a visitors centre too. A great deal of work has been undertaken in
order to provide comfortable facilities for all their guests. Since it’s
opening a total of nine CAMRA Branches and a host of clubs and societies have
visited the Kissingate. All are extremely complimentary of their hosts, the
surroundings and thoroughly enjoy the spirit of the day.

Over the next few months the brewery will install two new fermenters in order to meet demand.
Plans to open a shop are well underway where there will be sales of Kissingate
beers and merchandise too.

Kissingate Brewery

Alexander, the new apprentice brewer, has joined the brewery at an exciting time with a whole host of new beers to brew.

As promised at the house of Commons, Ray has introduced Light Duty, a 2.0% beer that is full of flavour and tastes much stronger. He plans to add more low gravity beers in the near future. Topper mild at 4.0% and Blackcurrant Mild at 5.0% are planned for May, along with 4.7% Buckland Shag, flavoured with coriander, an oatmeal stout called Chanctonbury Ring (5.6%), Magog, a 4.1% Pilsner and Double Fault, brewed using 2 malts and 2 hops in June. We may also see a Bavarian Weissbier, which is a sour beer designed to be flavoured with cordials. Busy Lizzie, a 5.0% pale IPA is due in June and Samurai rice beer at 6.0% is worth looking out for in July.

There will be a whole day of rock music at the brewery on Sat 08 Sept. If you are near the coast, check out Lionheart, which is a 4.4% bottled beer, available in off licences.

Weltons Brewery
