Gary is moving the brewery from Crawley to larger premises in Lower Beeding. There’s loads of painting to do at the new premises and the floor needs levelling and sealing.
There is a lot to be done before brewing commences but he hopes that he will start brewing again in about three weeks time. 31/08
Surrey CAMRA have taken the entire selection of Kissingate beers for the Egham Beer Festival this weekend. 21st & 22nd Aug. They have put them all on beer engines which is great.

Throughout the summer they have supplied a variety of beer festivals as well as local free houses in the Crawley area. The ales are extremely interesting, often complex, but totally enjoyable. Kissingate brew ales that are inspired by the techniques and cultures of the late middle ages, bringing the tastes of yesteryear for us to enjoy today. Kissingate brewer Gary Lucas describes his crafting style as ‘alternative’ but not radical. He likes to use herbs and spices to add character to his product range. So, some of the flavours within may not have been tasted for at least 150 years. In keeping with their values, Kissingate does not brew session ales. Gary says there are plenty of excellent brewers producing fine ales that appeal to a wider audience. Gary’s wife (Bunny) is also involved with the brewing enterprise. Gary says, “She is a great inspiration and has helped research and create the recipes for the Kissingate family”. We think deeply about the flavours we create and feel it’s important to provide the ale loving community with something a little different. Being a small brewer allows us to keep overheads low. So, we are able to use the finest ingredients in generous proportions. It has to be said that all the Kissingate ales are full bodied and flavoursome in every sense. Let’s hope the Kissingate brewery continues to do the same and goes from strength to strength. Two firkins of Kissingate Mary’s Ruby Mild 6.5% ABV and Warlock Strong Ale 5.2% ABV were recently part of the successful CAMRA North Sussex Branch Beer Festival 2010 at Ardingly. The empty casks were returned promptly to Kissingate as they represent a proportionally large tied asset that is not earning money when empty and unavailable. Brewers need all the help their business can muster!

Gary is going to assist at Ardingly this year.
A nine of beer was donated to the Sussex Beer Festival and has been on sale at The Swan and The Plough Inn at Rusper. Hopefully we will have Kissingate at the Ardingly Festival.
Crawley’s only brewery Kissingate is now delivering beer to the Swan at West Green, starting with First Kiss and then Mary’s Ruby Mild. Kissingate Moon follows as the brewery gathers pace in beer production. Three more ales Old Tale Porter, Warlocks Strong Ale and Christmas Tale will be completing the range. The ales are based on times gone by with the addition of herbs, spices and fruits delivering a complex taste and uniqueness from yesteryear, today!
